Croatia’s gas operator Plinacro secures 533 million euros for regional gas infrastructure expansion

Croatia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Damir Habijan and Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund’s Deputy Director Mirko Budiša have signed a project agreement with Plinacro’s President Ivica Arar.

The agreement grants Plinacro, Croatia’s gas transmission system operator, 533 million euros from Croatia’s EU Recovery and Resilience Plan for the construction of four gas pipelines that would transport gas from the LNG terminal on the Krk island to Slovenia, Hungary and other countries in Southeastern Europe.

Specifically, it refers to the following gas pipelines: Zlobin – Bosiljevo (58 kilometres), Bosiljevo – Sisak (101 kilometres), Kozarac – Sisak (21 kilometres) and the Zabok – Lučko gas pipeline (36 kilometres).

The construction of these gas pipelines is estimated to increase the technical capacity of the gas pipelines from 2.9 to 6.1 billion cubic metres per year.

This has been one of the largest, if not the largest single investment in infrastructure facilities in Croatia, in recent history, said Mr Arar. At the same time, he pointed out that thanks to the grant secured by the Croatian government, this large investment will not increase gas transmission tariffs.
