Azerbaijan and Hungary agrees to continue energy cooperation as gas shipments start in April

Azerbaijan and Hungary held the fourth meeting of the Working Group on Energy at the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan to review the development of their cooperation in various fields of energy.

Zaur Mammadov, co-chairman of the Working Group and Head of Administration of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan emphasised that the meetings and the signed documents contribute to the cooperation between the two countries in the field of both traditional energy and green energy, and the work done and the results achieved are ahead of plans.

Izabella Feierabend, Head of Department of Energy and Climate Diplomacy Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary shared her views on the current state of cooperation within the Working Group and the steps to be taken this year.

Azerbaijani gas shipments to Hungary under a contract for 100 million cubic metres began in April of this year and parties expressed their interest in continuing discussions on medium and long-term gas trade.

They referred to the results of ministerial meetings between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary to implement the agreement on strategic partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy, and noted that this cooperation platform contributes to the implementation of the green agenda of both countries.

The meeting also encouraged the continuation of the organisation of mutual trainings and seminars between the regulatory authorities of the countries and the exchange of experience in the field of energy efficiency and the management of energy efficiency funds.

The parties signed a protocol on the outcomes of the meeting and decided to hold the next meeting of the Working Group in Budapest next year.
