Polish-American regional training centre for clean energy technologies in Warsaw

Poland’s Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and Michael Goff from the US Department of Energy inaugurated today (3 April) the Polish-American Regional Clean Energy Training Centre.

“Nuclear energy is an important element of the Polish energy transformation. The implementation of the largest investment in the history of the Polish power system together with US partners is an expression of the Polish-American strategic alliance. Cooperation with the United States will bring Poland closer to achieving climate neutrality and comprehensive modernisation of the Polish energy sector,” said Poland’s Deputy Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka.

The Clean Energy Training Centre aims to train personnel for the Polish Nuclear Energy (PEJ) Programme. Last December, the national “Human Resources Development Plan for Nuclear Energy” was approved as an executive document for the PEJ Programme.

The centre’s training sessions will target a wide range of recipients, including universities, institutions and companies involved in nuclear projects in Poland. Polish universities and companies implementing or planning to implement nuclear projects, supervisory institutions (State Atomic Energy Agency, Technical Inspection Authority), research institutes (National Centre for Nuclear Research, Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Łukasiewicz Research Network), a radioactive waste management plant, as well as domestic companies from the broader supply chain and industry have expressed interest in participating in CETC training to prepare for certification, codes, standards, and nuclear requirements specific to American technologies.

“The Regional Training Centre for Clean Energy Technologies is an investment in our common, safe future and an investment in Poles. It is the first centre of this type in the world. Thanks to it, technical support from American energy experts for Poland and the region will be available on site. It will become a key element of the US-Poland energy partnership. The United States is committed to sustainable energy development and supports Poland in the energy transformation process,” said US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski.

The centre’s activities will be coordinated by the Department of Nuclear Energy at the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment. As part of the Steering Committee’s work, training plans will be developed annually in collaboration with partners from the US side – the US Department of Energy – addressing current needs. These plans will identify priority thematic areas for specific entities, the ministry noted in a press release.

Depending on their format and specificity, training sessions will be conducted online or in person, both in Poland and the United States, including at nuclear facilities.
