Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector to be completed in coming months, Minister says

On Wednesday (15 March), Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović spoke with the Ambassador of Bulgaria in Belgrade, Petko Dojkov regarding progress on the construction of the new Niš-Dimitrovgrad gas interconnector.

Minister Đedović confirmed that the gas interconnector will be constructed this fall.

“Diversification of energy supply sources and directions is of great importance for the energy security of our country. In the fall, we will complete the construction of a gas interconnection with Bulgaria, which will connect us with natural gas sources from Azerbaijan, the Caspian region, as well as with LNG terminals in Greece,” she said.

“Regional cooperation in gas supply in Southeast Europe is important in order to look together at the potential of building new interconnections, the necessary capacities, consumption and the possibility of ensuring a stable supply,” the Minister added.

Ambassador Dojkov emphasised that Bulgaria and Serbia are developing an active dialogue in many areas. In recent years, the cooperation in transport and energy connectivity has been very successful, the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador highlighted Bulgaria’s support for Serbia in the process of joining the EU, which provided financial assistance for the construction of the gas interconnection between the two countries.
