Everyone ‘keen’ for Poland’s first nuclear power plant to be built on time, minister says

Everyone is keen for the first nuclear power plant in Poland to be built on time, Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska said during a meeting with Patrick Fragman, President and Executive Director of Westinghouse Electric Company on Wednesday (10 April).

During the meeting, Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska emphasised that the new government is fully committed to the energy transformation, and nuclear energy is an important element of this process and will constitute a significant part of Poland’s future energy mix. The Minister also stressed the importance of timely implementation of the project to build the first Polish nuclear power plant.

“The Polish government expects broad involvement of Polish companies in the implementation of the nuclear power plant construction project, in accordance with their experience and competencies. This will create a new industry sector in Poland, which will provide new jobs,” said Minister Hennig-Kloska. “Poland sees the nuclear power plant construction project as an opportunity for the development and expansion of the Polish industry, both based on participation in the Polish project and, subsequently, entry into global supply chains for the nuclear industry.”

Issues related to building competencies and human resources for nuclear energy in Poland were also discussed during the meeting, as well as the involvement of the Polish industry in the implementation of this investment.

As part of the Polish Nuclear Energy Programme, the first power plant with three reactors using American AP1000 technology is set to be built by Westinghouse and Bechtel in Lubiatowo-Kopalino in the Pomorskie voivodeship (northern Poland).
