GAZ-SYSTEM obtains location decision for connecting gas pipeline to Rybnik gas and steam block

The Silesian Voivode, a regional authority body in south Poland, has issued a decision on the location of a high-pressure gas pipeline to the planned gas and steam unit in Rybnik in the Silesian Voivodeship, reported by Polish gas transmission system operator GAZ-SYSTEM on Thursday (20 July).

As part of this project, GAZ-SYSTEM will construct a gas pipeline with a length of 4.5 km and a diameter of 500 mm, along with a measuring station capable of handling 160,000 cubic meters per hour (m3/h) of gas. The pipeline will be connected to the planned Racibórz-Rybnik gas pipeline.

To connect the new gas-steam unit to the transmission network, in addition to the connecting pipeline, GAZ-SYSTEM will build two additional interconnectors: Kędzierzyn-Koźle – Racibórz, spanning around 37 km long, and the Racibórz-Rybnik, with a length of over 38 km, which is part of the planned Racibórz-Oświęcim gas pipeline.

These three investment projects will provide a total of 1 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas annually to the gas and steam unit in Rybnik, GAZ-SYSTEM said via a press release.

The gas and steam unit being built in the Silesian region is set to become the largest in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. It is scheduled for completion in 2026 and will play a vital role in reducing the emission intensity of the national economy while enhancing air quality in the region, GAZ-SYSTEM said.
