A Chinese woman has been charged in the UK with two counts of criminal possession of cryptocurrency.

Yadi Zhang, also known as Zhimin Qian, is accused of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property, namely cryptocurrency, from October 1, 2017 until Tuesday this week in London and elsewhere in the UK.

Zhang, who denies the charges brought by the Crown Prosecution Service, made an initial appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Through a translator, she indicated she would plead not guilty and did not apply for bail. She gave her date of birth as 10 November 1990.

“There should be no rush to judgment in this case. Ms Zhang asserts that she is wholly innocent,” her lawyer, Roger Sahota of Berkeley Square Solicitors, told the Financial Times.

She was remanded in custody by District Judge Sarah Turnock. The case has been sent to Southwark Crown Court.
