Polish gas transmission operator GAZ-SYSTEM announced on Wednesday (4 October) that it has completed the construction of a new Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline connecting a gas compressor station in Gustorzyn, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship (north central Poland) with a compressor station in Wronów, Lublin Voivodeship (southeastern Poland).
With a total length of 308 kilometres, it is the company’s longest linear investment carried out this year.
Running through four voivodeships: Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Masovian, Łódź and Lublin, the pipeline will supply gas to central Poland, increase the flexibility of the system and enable the connection of additional entities to the transmission network.
“A developed transportation infrastructure providing easy access to energy sources is the foundation of a country’s security and efficient functioning. The Gustorzyn – Wronów gas pipeline represents a strategic 308-kilometre transmission infrastructure in the central part of the country. This way, the current government continues to build Poland’s significant position in the region,” said Anna Moskwa, Polish Minister of Climate and Environment.
The gas pipeline connecting Gustorzyn to Wronów is expected to enable flexible control over gas transmission to the central and southern regions of Poland, and transmit gas from the planned FSRU Terminal in Gdańsk. There are also plans for the pipeline to provide gas to the Kozienice power plant.
“Thanks to GAZ-SYSTEM investments such as the existing gas interconnectors with Denmark, Lithuania, and Slovakia, the expansion of regasification capacity at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, and the upcoming FSRU-type LNG Terminal in Gdańsk, we are becoming a gas hub for Central and Eastern European countries. The consistency in the actions of the current authorities is a guarantee of the country’s economic growth and the well-being of our citizens,” Minister Moskwa added.
According to the company’s schedule, the entire gas pipeline will be put into operation by the end of the year. The project began in 2021, with the construction starting in early 2022.
The European Commission granted the investment the status of “Project of Common Interest” (PCI), receiving over 700 million zlotys (151.9 million euros) in funding under the REACT-EU and the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2014-2020.
