Romania’s Energy Ministry announced on Wednesday (1 November) that it is launching a new call for local governments for projects related to electricity production capacities from renewables for self-consumption, funded by the EU’s Modernisation Fund.
“Through this call for projects, we give local institutions the chance to cover part of the consumption of public buildings from renewable energy sources for schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other important public places for citizens,” said Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy.
The call’s budget is 500 million euros, with a maximum grant of 10 million euros that can be awarded to a single beneficiary.
“The Modernisation Fund represents the biggest chance for Romania’s energy of tomorrow: a safer, more competitive and greener energy. In this process, the Ministry of Energy considers local public authorities as reliable partners in this process. Often, at the local level, projects also move faster and better, and communities have become vectors of development,” said Minister Burduja. “Through this call for projects, we give local institutions the chance to cover part of their consumption of public buildings from renewable energy sources for schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other important public places for citizens. The first-come-first-served rule supports the authorities that have prepared projects ahead of time, but we also have a generous budget of 500 million euros.”
The financial support in the form of a grant, within the call for projects, is based on the principle of “first come, first evaluated, evaluated and contracted,” the ministry said in a press release.
“With these funds we can cover as many needs as possible in the territory. The evaluation of the projects will be carried out at the level of experts of the Ministry of Energy, who have accumulated significant experience through the management of similar projects with private beneficiaries. In parallel, we continue the effort to increase the administrative capacity of the ministry, to ensure a transparent, objective and efficient evaluation, contracting and monitoring process,” the minister added.
The launch of the call is planned to take place following the publication of a dedicated announcement by the ministry, which is expected to include all the details related to the call.
